This is the story of my Great Great Grandma
In 1842 a 19 year old girl, and her new husband set sail for the South Seas.
For the next 18 years she lived a life as a missionary’s wife.
Little did Betsy and Sandy realise they they were to embroiled in a a complex world of inter tribal disputes and global expansionist politics.
What they did know was they were following in the footsteps of 43 year old Rev John Williams who had been sadly killed (and probably eaten) on the island of Erromanga a few years earlier
Betsy’s family fully expected that they might never see her again and her father never did.
On the 12th July 1842 – they got married in Oswestry and two days later Sandy was ordained as a minister. And then they set forth to London.
On the 28th they set sail.
